Dr. Risa Moriarity named new chief faculty affairs officer

Dr. Moriarity previously served as associate chief faculty affairs officer, a role she has held since 2023. In that position, she helped expand faculty development opportunities across the institution and played a key role in advancing programs that support faculty success, engagement, and professional growth. She was instrumental in the creation of Faculty Focus, UMMC’s interprofessional faculty development initiative, and the Faculty Focus Leadership Development Program. 

A professor and vice chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Moriarity has served on the UMMC faculty since completing her emergency medicine residency in 2005. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to faculty development, mentorship, and academic advancement. She previously chaired the School of Medicine appointments, promotions and tenure committee and served in numerous roles related to faculty success at the department, school, and institutional level. 

Dr. Moriarity earned her BA from Yale University and her MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at UMMC. 

As chief faculty affairs officer, Dr. Moriarity will provide strategic leadership for faculty affairs across all six schools. She will oversee initiatives related to recruitment, onboarding, development, advancement, professionalism, and retention, helping ensure that UMMC remains a destination where faculty thrive throughout their careers.
